Humpi and Badami 2014

Humpi Main Tower 30/September/2014 10.10 AM

I don't believe in saying too much in this era of emoticon language. People don't seem to have time to read much.

However, I happened to travel alone to Hampi and Badami during this vacation and I thought I would share my experience, which may benefit anybody who is interested to travel these places.

I took a train from Bangalore to Hospet, which is a 8 hours journey. The best thing about Hampi is, it is tourist friendly, meaning the locals are adjusted to welcome people , guess it happened over a period of time with foreign tourists.

you can hire a bike ! Roam around as you wish, but.. remember, this once capital of vijayanagara is remote village without many street lights in night. Not recommended to roam around in the night.

Hampi has two major parts for stay , other side of the river , where most foreigners stay ( more on to natural) and the temple side where most of the historical monuments are present. so I stayed close to the temple, so wouldnt talk much about the other side, which I am not sure about. If you stay on the other side, you will have to catch a ferry to reach the main part of  Hampi, but the ferry service is available only between 6 AM to 6 PM and there is no guarantee later.

I stayed close to temple , this as I understand is a agrahara (vegetarians who were taking of temples) got in to the hotel business.  I stayed in Rockeys, which was Rs.700 per night and Rs 150 for a bike, pretty cheap for the standards. Remember, there is no liquor or nonveg available in any of the stays close to the temple. but it is pretty decent for the cost. For couple of drinks, I had to drive 5 Kms from here in the night , which was pretty scary without any street lamps and a dim head lamp on my mopet.

There is a small mountain or a rock place besides the temple from where the few of Hampi main tower and temple. This mountain has many temples and sculptures.
